SÀ BUU began with our own experience of sensitive skin, both mine and within my family.

A chance introduction to traditional cold-process soapmaking became the beginning of a personal journey. What first started as curiosity gradually grew into years of learning, making and refining formulas for ourselves, our family and friends.

Over time, that personal interest became SÀ BUU — a gentle approach to everyday care, where traditional Thai herbal wisdom meets modern cosmetic ingredients and formulation techniques.

My connection with cold-process soap did not begin with a plan to create a brand. It began much more personally — with sensitive skin.

For years, I searched for and tried different products, looking for something gentler, more balanced and better suited to me.

I have always enjoyed experimenting and learning by doing. I have loved making and trying things since I was young, and my introduction to cold-process soapmaking came by chance in 2015.

At the time, I did not really know what cold-process soap was. But after using the soap I made in that first class, I noticed something different about the way it felt on my skin.

So I kept making it — simply because I enjoyed the process.

Later, when skin concerns within my own family became more noticeable, I began studying and developing my formulas more seriously.

Over the years, one idea stayed with me:

Cold-process soap rewards patience.

Some of the bars I made were kept for years, and I became fascinated by how they matured. It reminded me of something I have always found fascinating about wine, Champagne and fine spirits — quality begins with the ingredients, while craftsmanship and time allow their character to develop.

Soap and wine are, of course, very different things. But the principle that fascinates me is similar: the potential of the finished product begins with the quality and suitability of the raw materials, followed by the method and the time allowed for the process to develop.

Some things simply become better when they are given the time they need.

For SÀ BUU, cold-process soapmaking is not about returning to the past for the sake of tradition. It reflects the way we choose to work — respecting a time-honoured method while bringing together traditional Thai herbal wisdom, botanical ingredients and modern cosmetic formulation knowledge.

We choose our ingredients with care, formulate with purpose, and allow the process the time it needs rather than rushing it.

For me, that is where the beauty of cold-process soap lies — in the balance between ingredients, craftsmanship and time.
